Sports Report: Term 3 Wrap

Throughout Term 3, we have celebrated many successes on the athletics track, badminton courts, soccer and rugby fields and ski runs.

On the athletics track, over 60 St Catherine’s athletes competed in the Division 2 Championship Carnival. St Catherine’s finished in fifth place overall. Seventeen students qualified to compete at the GSV Finals Night last week, putting them in the top 10 placegetters across the Divisions 1, 2 & 3 Carnivals. Finals Night saw a fantastic return of five gold medals, one silver and four bronze to place St Catherine’s a phenomenal sixth out of 24 schools on the medal tally.

Congratulations to our medal winners:

Gold:

  • Violetta Capanni – Year 9 Javelin
  • Paloma Gattino – Year 9 100m & 200m
  • Lily Taylor – Year 12 100m & 200m

Silver:

  • Lucia Tabbagh – Year 12 Triple Jump

Bronze:

  • Mikayla Pajouhesh – Year 10 100m & 400m
  • Matisse Stafford – Year 12 400m & 1500m

On the mountain, our Snowsports athletes again proved to be some of the strongest with excellent results throughout the season. This included a first-place finish for our Junior Team at the Cross-Country Interschool Championships, followed by a second-place finish at the Victorian Interschools Championships! Likewise, our Senior Team finished in second place in both the Cross-Country and Victorian Interschools Championships. Congratulations to all members of our Snowsports Teams.

In the GSV Weekly Sport Competition, a record number of students played Badminton, with over 100 competitors playing in 13 teams. Our Senior B Badminton Team created history by winning St Catherine’s first ever GSV Premiership in Badminton. Our GSV Soccer Teams also had strong seasons, particularly our Junior A Team who progressed to the GSV Finals.

Once again, St Catherine’s competed in the Cattermole Cup, a schoolgirls Rugby 7s tournament, now in its second year. The bravery and determination shown by these students trying a new sport was outstanding. The day was full of tackles, trys and teamwork. We are so proud of the effort put in by our Years 7 to 10 students.

Now, we look ahead to Term 4, with training for Rowing, GSV Cricket, Basketball and Junior Water Polo already underway.
