From the Classroom – Year 5

This Semester, Year 5 have been exploring Economics and Business as part of their Unit of Investigation. The girls learned what economics means and they investigated terms such as import, export, trade, human capital and natural resources.

To finish the Unit, the girls put their creative minds to work to plan and present a Mini Business. The project involved conducting market research, creating business cards and a website, calculating profit and loss, and presenting a display at the Year 5 Business Expo. The Business Expo is a highlight on the Year 5 calendar in Term 4, with a great display of creativity, colour and a lot of fun.

“I really enjoyed getting to be a part of the Year 5 Mini Businesses. It was so much fun and we learnt so many new skills and learned all about economics and business.” Alexia Chatfield

“I enjoyed how we could view everyone’s project, and what they had accomplished so far. I’ve also learned how the economy functions, which has helped me have a better understanding.” Jiali (Erena) Zhu

“It was really fun walking around to everyone’s display and seeing their work and products. Many people have hidden talents that I didn’t know of. Like mini sculptures, body scrubs, clay rings and many more!” Tavia Anh Pham

“What I loved about the mini business expo was that we learnt good time management. We learnt to be organised, and we experienced what it would be like to create our own business.” Berry Roberts

“During HASS we’ve learnt a lot about marketing, profit and loss and that running a business isn’t as easy as it seems. I’ve learned about what happens behind the scenes and that setting up your business isn’t always what happens in front of the customer’s eyes. I’ve had a lot of fun!” Tara Pattison

“I loved doing the mini business project! It was exciting to see all the different stalls. They were all very creative and some even had some things to try. This was a fun task to do during home learning and back at School. I would love to continue my business in the future.” Olivia Batt
