Junior School News
Barbreck students from ELC4 to Year 6 enjoyed an Indigenous Art incursion with Merindah-Gunya, a proud Peek Whurrong woman of the Maar nation, from south-west Victoria (Warrnambool).
Merindah-Gunya worked with our students to produce artwork on wood; these will be assembled to make totem poles for the gardens around the Junior School. Each piece tells the story of cross-year level collaboration; our older students worked alongside the youngest members of our student cohort to promote inclusivity, strengthen bonds, and showcase the broad talents of our burgeoning artists. Merindah-Gunya also shared her book, Yakeen ‘Dreaming’, and graciously gave students the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions to a professional artist and author.
It was a wonderful day, with truly fantastic art created by our girls. We look forward to sharing these with you in due course.
