Around the Grounds
From our Celebration of Sport awards to strong showings across Netball, Rowing and Basketball, it has been a week of momentum and pride at St Catherine’s. We have celebrated our community, welcomed new seasons, and seen our girls lift their game in training and competition. We welcome you to dive into the highlights below, including photos from the Awards Night, All Schools Athletics news, and team updates across the Program.
Celebration of Sport
Last week, the St Catherine’s community came together for our annual Celebration of Sport evening; a night that recognised the incredible talent, commitment, and spirit of our students across all Sports Programs. Olympic sailor, Tess Lloyd, inspired as guest speaker, sharing powerful reflections on resilience, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence. A heartfelt thank you to the Parent Sport Auxiliary for their outstanding support in coordinating the event, and to all staff and coaches for their ongoing dedication throughout the year. Most importantly, congratulations to all our award winners and every student who represented St Catherine’s with pride in 2025. Your energy and sportsmanship continue to define what makes Sport at the School so special.
The Team of the Year was awarded to the Snowsports Division 3 Ski Cross Team — India Peters, Coco Thomas, and Bella Wilkins — who captured a national title at the 2025 Interschools Championships
Athletics
We wish the very best of luck to all the St Catherine’s girls competing at the 2025 UNCLOUD Victorian All-Schools Track and Field Championships. We are proud to have nine athletes from our GSV Athletics team representing the School at this state-level competition.
The Championships, held across two weekends (25 – 26 October, and 1 – 2 November), bring together the best secondary school athletes from across Victoria, spanning the U14 to U20 age groups.
Good luck to our students as they strive for personal bests and the chance to qualify for the Australian All Schools Track and Field Championships
Netball
Netball is off to a fantastic start this term, led by our Head Coach, Ms Natalie Mathews. Natalie has returned fresh from coaching the Samoan U21 National Team to an impressive 9th place finish at the Youth World Cup in Gibraltar. Under her guidance, our Netball Program continues to thrive, with 9 of our 11 teams currently sitting inside the top 4 on the ladder.
This week saw another strong round of results, with four wins from five matches, including great victories to the Flames, Comets, Thunder, and Tigers, and a very close loss to the team on top of the ladder. The girls continue to show outstanding teamwork, energy, and growth each week.
Congratulations to all players and coaches on such a positive start to the season. We cannot wait to see what the next few rounds bring!

Rowing
The School Rowing season is off to a fantastic start! Our Year 8 Regatta on Saturday was a huge success, with a great turnout of enthusiastic parents and students. The girls had a wonderful time on the water, showing great spirit and teamwork. Meanwhile, our intermediate and senior squads have hit the ground running, already deep into training as they prepare for a busy and exciting season ahead.
Basketball
Basketball has been hugely popular so far this term, with great energy and enthusiasm across all year levels. A real highlight this week was seeing our four Intermediate teams compete at Sacré Cœur, where the girls demonstrated fantastic teamwork and improvement – getting better with every game and training session. We currently have two Senior teams, four Intermediate teams, and four Junior teams, supported by a passionate coaching team delivering engaging and productive sessions each week.
We are looking forward to another strong week of training and competition ahead. If you’re interested in joining one of our Senior teams, we would love to have you. Please contact Ms Sam Basford to get involved.
Cricket
Our Junior and Senior Cricket teams have commenced training for the season and are fortunate to be coached by Ms Clare Haysom. In addition to teaching Physics at St Catherine’s, Ms Haysom is a Victorian Premier Cricket umpire, travelling across the country to officiate both men’s and women’s matches.
We are currently looking for a few more players to join our cricket squads. No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go! If you are interested in being part of the team, please contact Mr Lewis Gray.
