Sharing Barbeck with our Community

Our Barbreck girls enjoy an enriched learning experience at St Catherine’s School every day. It is therefore so special when they can share these experiences with their families, friends, and our wider School community throughout the course of the school year.

This term, we have several such events including our Special Visitors’ Morning held last week for our Prep to Year 3 girls and our Years 5 and 6 Musical Seussical JR taking place next Wednesday 31 May to Friday 2 June.

Events like these provide a wonderful opportunity for our community to join our students and appreciate the girls’ work and talents and what our Junior School offers. These events are special, not only for the girls but for those people who they hold dear to them – those that encourage, support, and guide our girls.

Special Visitors’ Morning

Special Visitors’ Morning last Friday was a very special time for our Prep to Year 3 girls. On this day, the special visitors they had invited attended a wonderful morning where the girls showcased their performances, had discussions, introduced friends and teachers, and showed their special visitors around their classroom and school.

Being chosen as a girl’s special person, whether it is a grandparent, aunt, big brother, or a neighbour, is a real honour and one to be cherished dearly. Those chosen have all in some way had a positive impact on that girl’s young life. They hold them in a very special place in their hearts. It was clear in the days leading up to the event that the girls were excited about their special person visiting Barbreck. The girls, led by their wonderful teachers, were busy rehearsing, practising and getting their classroom ready for the visit.

On the day, the girls looked amazing and blue ribbons were proudly tied into their hair, uniforms were immaculate, and shoes polished – it all added to the importance of the event for the girls. They not only wanted to perform well, but they were also proud of the school they attend and wanted to look their very best!

The morning was held in our newly refurbished Sports Centre. The refurbished spaces look remarkable and everyone in attendance would have been impressed with how different it now looks and its new functionality.

Our Year 2 Strings were a standout during the event. The girls played three pieces and they have only been learning the violin this year. Much credit must go to their Strings teacher, Mrs Lisa Cook, for her skill in progressing the girls’ learning and skill so well. Mrs Cook also takes the Years 3 and 4 Strings Ensemble. All in attendance could see the progression in skills the girls make from one year to the next.

Seussical JR.

This year’s musical, Seussical JR. has two casts. The number of girls across Years 5 and 6 is large, and to avoid disappointment, our wonderful teachers decided to have two casts. This was not a light undertaking by any means! There have been twice the number of girls performing, twice as many rehearsals and twice as many performances each day.

The girls in these Year levels have been working so hard in preparation for the performances and I know many parents and extended family members will be there in support. It will be a Barbreck community event not to be missed! The musical is a wonderful time to come together to celebrate the achievements of the girls in their performances. I know our girls will be amazing!

Seussical JR. Performances will run from Wednesday 31 May to Friday 2 June, with performance times to suit all needs. This is a must-see event and I encourage all parents to come along and support our Years 5 and 6 girls. The younger students will love seeing the performances and gain a real sense of what they too will be doing in their final years at Barbreck.
