Our sporting stars have hit the ground running with a fantastic first term.

GSV Weekly Sports

Over 140 students played Tennis and over 50 played Softball in the GSV Weekly Sport competition. All four of our Softball Teams dominated their zones, finishing with a combined record of 26 wins, two losses and one draw. Across the term, an incredible seven teams progressed to the finals. 

At the finals, our Senior Softball Team had a 10-0 win in their semi-final before playing in an epic grand final against Sacre Coeur. After a seven to three final innings, scores were tied at 12 all. A tie-breaker innings was played with St Catherine’s getting pipped by one run to finish GSV Runners Up.

GSV Carnival Sports

Our Dive Team competed in the Division 3 GSV Championships. A fantastic effort saw St Catherine’s finish first in the Senior and Junior Divisions, and third overall.  

A huge effort from our swimmers saw them in a neck-and-neck battle with Lauriston for the Division 2 Championship Trophy. With the result going down to the wire, St Catherine’s finished in second place by only two points. This was our best result in the GSV Swimming competition since 2018. St Catherine’s was rewarded with 31 entries at the GSV Finals Night, the third most entries of the 24 GSV schools. From these, we finished with an incredible medal haul of six Gold, two Silver and four Bronze.

This placed St Catherine’s first on the medal tally!! Congratulations to our medal winners:

Engagement Sports

Triathlon 

Twenty-eight students competed in the GSV Triathlon in Altona. Our only Year 7 Team of Coco Lutz, Carla Martuccio and Charlotte Roe finished an incredible fifth out of 72 junior teams. Likewise, our Year 12 Team of Brydie Read and Matisse Stafford finished an impressive tenth out of 48 entries. 

Sailing 

Three St Catherine’s crews competed in the annual Girls Sail event at Davey’s Bay Yacht Club.  

All sailors had an impressive day on the water. The sister team of Lilly and Rose Fogarty finished fourth in Division 1, Rosie Oxley and Rhea Werner fifteenth in Division 1 and Samantha Kudnig and Clover Oxley fourth in Division 2. 

We look forward to getting into Term 2 Sports with Hockey, Netball, Water Polo, AFL, and Cross Country all on the agenda.
