Swimming News

With Term 1 coming to a close, we have some amazing swimmers we need to congratulate. Both Abigail Chan and Kimberly Chen in Year 5 competed in the SSV Regional Swimming Championships on Monday 3 April at Rosebud. We are so proud of both girls who have represented St Catherine’s with pride and dignity. After an incredible swim, Kimberly finished first in the 11-Year-Old 50m Butterfly and subsequently will go through to the State Championships. Abigail Chan starred in her two races at the Regionals finishing second in the 9/10-year-old 50m Freestyle and first in the 50m Breaststroke, an incredible performance.

Congratulations to both girls who will now go on to compete at the SSV State Swimming Carnival. An incredible achievement for these girls to go through to the final round as the fastest eight swimmers in their respective events for their age group. We look forward to hearing about the girls’ impressive performances at the SSV State Swimming Carnival next term on Friday 28 April at MSAC.

After-school Sport

Years 5 and 6 students have finished their after-school sport for the Term. With some close matches across Tee ball and Netball all girls have had a wonderful time led by their Year 6 House Captains.

We are looking forward to the return of Mr Crebbin with many opportunities for our Year 6s to participate in.

District Diving

Twelve nervous and excited students from Years 4, 5 and 6 represented St Catherine’s School in the Armadale District Dive Carnival, held at St Catherine’s on Tuesday 4 April.

The 10-years age category students, Nina, Millie, Ella, and Cate presented their jumps and forward dive to the judges showing poise and confidence despite their nerves from being in their first competition. Nina dived her way into second place and was delighted with her results.

Our 11-years age category students in B Division, Nina, Samara, and Abigail competed very well. Nina claimed victory with a solid back dive and Samara took out third place showing great body control. Imogen bravely chose to compete with three different dives placing her in A Division. Despite trying hard and having a positive attitude, it just was not her day.

Our 12-years age category split with two in B Division, Chloe and Scarlett, whilst Grace and Milly dived in the very competitive A Division. Scarlett took out B Division with Chloe third. Grace and Milly dove well, showing a variety of dives including inwards, saults and back dives, finishing eighth and ninth.

Congratulations to all our girls who competed and to those who just missed out. We are fortunate to have so many eager students who are wanting to learn to dive.
