Barbreck News – Inspirational Role Models

Inspirational Role Models

Within our Junior School we celebrate the unique talents of every one of our Barbreck girls. It is always inspiring to see our girls challenging themselves with new interests, setting goals, developing new skills, and learning from others as we witness and celebrate their achievements.

Each week the girls find inspiration from others. Our Barberck assemblies are a wonderful opportunity to highlight some of our talented girls, and this year we have had the marvellous opportunity to listen to Junya Jiang (Year 5) perform several times, and more recently play the National Anthem for us to sing along with at our assemblies.

Junya joined Barbreck this year and her mother wrote a beautiful email outlining her experiences so far.

“Since first joining St Catherine’s School this February, Junya received a warm welcome from Ms McArdle and considerable care from Ms Wootton. She rapidly fitted into the school, her class, and her new friends. She is eager to come to School every day, and she endeavours to participate in all School activities (including those sports activities she never tried before).

“She became more positive and confident day by day. With the encouragement of Ms Dhono, she also played piano on many occasions in the School and received so many joyful experiences. I can tell, St Catherine’s lights the passion of Junya to devote herself in all fields she is learning.”

When listening to Junya play, it is evident that while she is incredibly talented, she is also very committed to her training. This year, she received the first prize in two international piano competitions. She has also spent time this year studying for a Piano Performance Diploma, and after countless practices, she submitted her performance to Trinity College in London and achieved a Distinction. She is now one of the youngest Associates of Trinity College at nine years of age. This opens the pathway for her to pursue professional musicianship.

We congratulate Junya on her extraordinary achievements!

The Junior School girls have also been inspired by the St Catherine’s First VIII rowers who are heading to London to compete at the Henley Royal Regatta in mid-June this year. The Junior School girls created wonderful posters of support and encouragement for the rowers. We hope that when the rowers read the girls’ posters, they too will be inspired to do their best, knowing our Barbreck girls think they are an inspiration for what can be achieved through setting goals and doing their best. Their commitment to the team and their persistence through endless hours of training is outstanding. We wish them well!

Inspiration comes in many forms. It might inspire some to make small changes, others to make big changes. Inspiration is the start, commitment to a goal is key, and perseverance and resilience are essential to achieving goals. Girls at Barbreck are encouraged and supported to be inspired, to learn and invest their time in developing mindsets that will help them work towards their goals.
