From the ELC – Establishing a Community of Learners

The commencement of the school year has seen the children in Campbell House begin to establish and develop relationships with peers and educators. Whilst the children begin to familiarise themselves with their new environment, group routines and expectations are established. Values such as kindness, respect and empathy are discussed and role modelled. This is all part of understanding what it means to be a community of learners.

Strong relationships in the classroom environment help children feel safe, secure, supported and ready for learning. This has been a focus for our educators during the initial weeks of term and highlights the importance of developing these connections at this early stage.

Children are curious and confident learners and as their relationships continue to strengthen they will become even more confident with their learning.

Ensuring that every child feels a sense of security and belonging within the school enables each child to accept and participate actively in transforming situations that are part of learning experiences.” Loris Malaguzzi

In the ELC, we view our young learners as being confident, competent and capable. Educators observe and get to know each child individually as well as the group. The educational program and learning experiences are then tailored to both individual needs and the collective group learning. The programs are designed to nurture and foster the children’s innate curiosity and eagerness to learn.

The foundations are certainly set for a wonderful year of learning and discovery ahead.
