Barbreck Sport – Junior School Irongirls

Year 6 Irongirls
This week, Barbreck Year 6 students took part in the annual Irongirl competition consisting of a 827m run, 150m swim and 797m run.
In a fantastic race which highlighted the determination and true grit of this year’s Year 6 Cohort, it was Isla Morris who took out the race followed by Charlotte Bell and Olivia Barr.
As is Barbreck tradition, our Top 10 Irongirls for 2021 are:
1st Isla Morris
2nd Charlotte Bell
3rd Olivia Barr
4th Chloe Nash
5th Ziabella (Zia) Armstrong
6th Chloe Handbury
7th Milla Cohen
8th Louisa Liao
9th Piper Pascoe
10th Polly Moir
Year 4 Irongirls
On Wednesday 1 December, the Year 4 students came to School as normal, but dressed ready for camp.
Unfortunately due to lockdowns the annual Year 4 Anglesea Camp was cancelled, so the Year 4 teachers organised camp activities for the girls to participate in during the day last week.
Each year, one of the girls’ favourite events at camp is the Irongirl event. So this year, instead of the beach run, the girls ran around the Junior School, swam four laps of the pool in the Marigold Southey Sports & Aquatic Centre and finished with a final running lap of the School.
Zara Barr showed her strength in both running and swimming leading all the way. Isabella Wilkins chased her all the way with Imogen Herron close behind. I know the Year 3 students watching on will be setting their sights on the trophy for next year.
Congratulations to all the girls who competed during the warm conditions.
Year 2 Irongirls
For only the second year our Barbreck Year 2 girls took part in the annual Irongirl race.
It consisted of a 450m run, followed by a 50 m swim and then a 350m swim.
With inaugural winner Samara Grinsell already on the trophy, it was Catherine Barry who added her name to the Hall of Fame. The podium was made up of:
1st Catherine Barry
2nd Grace Chatfield
3rd Alice Mackenzie
It was fantastic to see the Year 2 girls “dig in” and not give up when things became tough.
Well done to everyone.
