From the Head of Performing Arts
At the beginning of 2017, the Year 11s from each of the four Houses randomly selected an envelope that contained two different stimuli: a foreign city and a conceptual idea. These combinations were to be the foundation of the planning, development and presentation of their House Arts productions.
Many months later, once all the scripting, rehearsing and revisions had been done, the performance night marked the culmination of not only a year’s worth of preparation for the Year 11 leaders, but a full School week of rehearsal and work by every member of each House. The packed auditorium showed immense appreciation for the effort, passion and talent on display – each aspect of the performances led and run entirely by the students.
The judges across the five areas of Dance, Drama, Media, Music and Visual Art were full of praise for the cohesiveness, camaraderie and creativity on display. After yet another close battle, where each House finished within six percent of one another, Holmes Kilbride were awarded the inaugural Michael Bond House Arts Award. Holmes Kilbride Captains, Isabelle Gough and Sarah Steven, were thrilled that Carol Bond presented them with the trophy.
2018 sees another new challenge with an exciting stimulus pack to be released to the Year 11 cohort mid-Term 1, to be presented during the last week of School in Term 4.
