International Women’s Day in Barbreck

Barbreck recently celebrated International Women’s Day.

This year’s theme centered around innovation and digital technology for gender equality. To celebrate and recognise the success of women in the field of technology, our Year 6 students spoke to the Junior School Assembly about interesting and inspiring stories of women from across the globe.

In their presentation, the girls shared facts about the limited access girls and women have to technology around the world. They presented different stories of women who have been innovative and creative in the ways they have used technology to make the world a better and more equal place for all women.

Part of the Assembly presentation also involved a group of students taking on the role of successful women in STEM and business for a question-and-answer session. The panelists shared interesting facts about each woman’s path to success, with an emphasis on being persistent in following your passion and encouraging girls in the audience to keep trying because amazing things can happen when you put your mind to it, and the world of STEM needs women.

Along with presenting in Assembly, our Year 6 students worked together to cut and pin a purple ribbon for each Junior School student. Purple is the official colour of International Women’s Day, signifying strength, power, loyalty, justice, and dignity.
