At the heart of St Catherine’s School is a community dedicated to fostering, strengthening and enhancing opportunities for our students. An integral part of this community are our Year Level Parent Representatives who provide an invaluable communication channel between School and home. This week we celebrate and thank Year 6 Parent Representative, Mrs Natalie Lane, mother of Siena.

What Year level are you a Parent Representative for?

Year 6

What inspired you to volunteer for this role?

We were new to St Catherine’s in 2022, so I saw the role as a wonderful opportunity to get closer to the community and get to know some of the families in 2022 and this year.

Why is volunteering important to you?

I totally ascribe to the ethos of needing a tribe to raise a child and how important it is to give back to the community. By volunteering I’m building connections and a sense of community for myself, and my daughter, I think that is hugely important in this world. So, I guess it’s not entirely altruistic, but I love to be part of something more than myself.

What do you believe a St Catherine’s education provides your daughter(s)?

Being at a small school means that Siena cannot just fly under the radar. I did not want her to be somewhere where she would feel anonymous. St Cath’s has a wonderful Sports Program and an Academic Program that is second to none.

Outside of your Year Level Representative role, what are other interests/work you have?

I have an athleisure brand called Pilot Athletic which I have run (at varying degrees of intensity) over the past 10 years. I am also back at university doing a post-graduate Masters in Nutrition. Like my daughter, I love my sport and my latest passions are PT, Pilates and tennis and I’ve recently taken up golf. I am very family orientated, so they need a mention too.

Would you like to share something about yourself to our community – a special skill, your favourite book, meal, movie? Or an inspiring quote?

Helen Keller always got me with this one “One can never consent to creep, when one feels an impulse to soar.” It reminds me to live a big life.
