From the Music Room – Special Visitors’ Day

Term 2 is off to a productive start. In Week 2, students performed in their very first Choral Assembly of the year. It has been so long since our choirs performed live, and for our Prep and Year 1 students who are part of the Langley Choir (Prep to Year 2), it was their very first experience performing as a group to a large audience. It was a delight to have parents attend and for Barbreck to listen to each other sing! The Choral Assembly was just the start of a term full of performance opportunities. Please refer to the upcoming events below.

Last week was a busy week, with Years 3 and 4 excursions on Thursday 19 May and Special Visitors’ Day last Friday.

The Years 3 and 4 students have been exploring the elements of music and how they are used in classical composition. We are focusing on the famous suite, The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns. We were privileged to view an exquisite performance of the suite by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra that included entertaining puppetry, dancing, singing, and acting.

We had a successful and heart-warming Special Visitors’ Day performance last Friday morning, 20 May 2022. The Year 2 Strings, Petit Strings, Langley Choir and Year 3 performed songs they have been learning in Music/Strings. We had a jazzy solo performance by Roselyn (Rosie) Mokyiu, Year 3 on the viola.

Each Year level shared a few words in between performances about all things special to them: Why am I special? Why are your visitors special? Why is St Catherine’s special to you? Gratitude – I am thankful for…

It was a lovely morning, and the girls did a wonderful job! Congratulations to all lower primary students and teachers for creating a memorable moment for the families that came to visit our School.
