Every Tuesday at lunchtime in Barbreck, a group of creative enthusiasts meet in the Art Room for Art Club.

Students range from Years 2 to 6, and the supervising teachers are myself and Year 3 teacher Ms Georgina Stride.

Projects usually run for half a term and cover a range of mediums including textiles, painting, and ceramics.

This year, we used the whole School, Year of The Tiger, collaborative mural as our springboard for terracotta tigers. Each student cut out her own tiger face from a template onto which she carved, painted, and added clay depicting the tiger’s features.

Following this, we made a collaborative paper Easter wreath for the front cover of the Easter Order of Service booklet. Working together as a whole group is a great opportunity for mentoring, leadership, and getting to make friends across the Year levels.

Art Club is in its tenth year now. It is always valued by new students, creative minds, and those seeking an alternative to the playground.

All students from Years 2 to 6 are welcome. We look forward to seeing some new faces next term. We ask that a term-long commitment is made to enable projects to be completed.

“I am looking forward to making our next project in Art Club. I can’t wait to give my tiger to my Grandmother next week. I hope she likes it.” Siena, Year 5.

“I love coming to Art Club because it is fun and I can make friends. I learn how to make new things.” Emma, Year 2.
