News From the ELC – A Community of Learners

Young children develop a sense of belonging when they experience relationships and participate in communities. From birth, children experience living and learning with others in a range of communities. Experiencing respectful, responsive relationships strengthens the child’s interests and skills and enables them to become active contributors in their world.

Participation in the early learning community within Campbell House provides the children with opportunities to broaden their experiences and relationships.

“When educators create environments in which children experience mutually enjoyable, caring and respectful relationships with people and the environment, children respond accordingly.” Early Years Learning Framework Australia

Through our ELC curriculum framework, the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), the children are provided opportunities and experiences to develop their relationships with others, and their participation within a community of learners.

EYLF Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world

  • Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation
  • Children respond to diversity with respect
  • Children become aware of fairness
  • Children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment

“When children participate collaboratively in everyday routines, events and experiences and have opportunities to contribute to decisions, they learn to live interdependently.” Early Years Learning Framework Australia

During their educational journey in Campbell House, the children are provided with opportunities to develop a sense of community, learn about diversity and respect, develop an awareness of fairness and become socially responsible. These are all attributes for successful participation in the group learning context and wonderful preparation for life.
