This term, St Catherine’s Music students have continued to showcase their talents both online and during live performances, including our Celebration of Music Evening, held in early Term 4, a summary of which is provided in my previous Blue Ribbon article here.

Junior School Recitals

Given the success of online recitals we have continued this model for Term 4. Our Junior School musicians gave a wonderful recital on 28 October including Sylvanas Zhu (Piano), Aimee Davenport (Viola), Polly Moir (Piano), Angela Guo (Violin), Portia Carosa-Koziora (Piano), Eva Franes Cid (Violin), Charlotte Parfit (Piano), Xiyuan (Cici) Lu (Flute), Aimee Davenport (Piano), Annika Gill (Violin).

Another recital on 18 November included Camilla Aberdeen (Voice), Lucy Venema (cello), Louisa Liao (Flute), Clara Calvert  (Cello), Teegan Gobel (Piano), Emily Venema (Cello), Yuetong (Elsa) Wang (Flute), Avalon Pascoe (Viola), Miya Fei (Cello), Simone Yazbek (Piano), Milla Cohen (Cello), Tiffany Shen (Flute) and Olivia Grasso (Voice).

Senior School Recital

Our Senior musicians also gave a wonderful online recital on November 4, with performances from Charlotte Aston (Voice), Heidi Axup, (Trumpet), Lilla Barrington, (Voice), Kaixuan (Isabelle) Cao (Flute), Megan Chang, (Voice), Flora Du, (Violin), Jixuan (Jennifer) Gao, (Voice), Emma Gregory (Flute), Janine Jing (Janine) Hu (Horn), Gia Vy (Sue) Nguyen (Piano), Yutong (Irina) Pan (Ukulele and Voice) and Zhi Qing (Emma) Yang (Flute).

Speech Day

Upon the return to onsite learning it was wonderful to hear the sounds of bands, ensembles and choirs once again resounding throughout our School grounds.

This week we celebrated our 2021 Speech Day. Our wonderful Year 10 String Quartet opened proceedings with the Second movement from Suite para 4 Violines by Ladislav Gabrielli. Yifei (Angela) Tang played a fantastic Guzheng solo of Spring on Xiangjang River. Senior strings sounded magnificent playing Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings. Sherren Singers, directed by Ms Liv Cher gave a rollicking rendition of Nanny’s Farewell accompanied by Drums and Bass. Sophie Williams and Charlotte Aston revisited the hit performance of Back to Black and our 2022 School Pianist, Catherine Chen accompanied the Ode and played us out with Comptine D’un Autre Ete – l’apres.

Carol Services

Meanwhile our flutes and choirs are busily preparing their final performances for Junior School and Senior School Carol Services.
