Nicholas Library – busy again with students

It has been such a pleasure to see the Nicholas Library busy again with students and staff in a return to greater normality this Term.

In Week 3 of Term 4 we celebrated Book Week and the joy of reading. To start the week, students and staff were invited to decorate the Library windows with the names of their favourite books. By the end of the week the two allocated windows had extended to five, to accommodate all the contributions. It was wonderful to see how many students returned throughout the week to add yet one more book to the display. While many recent titles made it onto the windows, classics from Pride and Prejudice to Lord of the Rings, The Complete Works of Shakespeare and the beloved Harry Potter books were equally, if not more, popular.

Throughout the week the Library provided literary quizzes and competitions to enter. Congratulations go to our literary quiz winners: Equal First – Xinyi (Elaine) Wang (Year 7) and Saffron Scheele (Year 8); Equal Second – Katherine Herc (Year 11) and Amelie Snell-Bliss (Year 8); Equal Third – Jisu Yang (Year 8) and Chloe (Coco) Butterfield (Year 8). Congratulations also go to our ‘Guess the Number of Pages’ competition winners, Ciara Jenkins (Year 10), Jessica Paterson (Year 8) and Flora Cutchey (Year 8).

The Friday lunchtime Years 7-9 Book Club has also made a great start to Term 4 with our first ever Book Taster. Club members enjoyed the opportunity to preview all the newest books in the Library’s collection, including the winner of the 2020 CBCA Book Award for older readers. Opinions and tastes varied in the group which sparked lively discussions. Book Club members are amongst our most avid readers and it is fantastic to share their enthusiasm for reading and exploring books together.
