Junior School – My favourite park

In an effort to keep our Barbreck students active during the COVID-19 period they were set the challenge of visiting their favourite local park. In their reports they named the park and explained what they liked most about the green space.

For many of our students it was a place to take their pets, climb trees, play on swings, ride their bikes or complete an Orienteering course that was set for PE classes.

I hope you enjoy the variety of parks featured by our active students.

My favorite park is Toorak primary park. It has lots of room and a cricket pitch that can also be used as a soccer goal. Sometimes I ride my bike on the footpath and it is so much fun.

My favourite park is Kooyong Park (Sir Zelman Cowen Park). I live close by so I like to ride my bike there. I like this park because it has lots of things to do such as long jump and trees to climb. It is very spacious so I can kick the football with my dad and run a few laps around it. My favourite place in the park are the 3 ovals and I enjoy watching the dogs run on the oval. It is approximately 1km around the park which takes me 4 minutes and 30 seconds to run.

My favourite park is the Tan (The Royal Botanic Gardens) in Alexandra Avenue, South Yarra. I either travel by car, ride my bike, run or walk along the Yarra and it takes 6k from my house. The distance around the Tan is 3.827k – it runs in a circular shape. My favourite part is the Anderson Street hill because it is very challenging –  every time! My time varies around the Tan depending on if I run a fast run or a slow jog, with my favourite music playing. I love running the Tan with my family because of the beautiful scenery, the autumn colours, the city views and I can’t wait for our new puppy to join us.

My favourite local park is the Malvern Public Gardens. We usually walk, run or bike ride to it as it’s really close to our house. It’s only a small park, about half a kilometre to walk or run around the track. Which means if I need to do district running training I need to run 6 laps to make it a 3km run!! When we walk slowly and look at things on the track it takes us about 10 minutes to walk around.

My favourite thing to do in the park is climb trees and do gymnastics tricks on the grass!

My favourite park is Darebin Parklands on Separation St in Alphington. It is a very big park, too big to count because there are so many paths leading to ovals and parks that are still in the Darebin Parklands. I like this park because there are endless trails that are nice to run and bike ride on, there is one particular spot that I like the most, you follow a trail and end up in a big open space which has a huge field and a path that follows the river. I also like what I call the beehive, it is near the start of the parklands and is a huge thing that looks like a beehive. Just next to it is a hill which you can go up and watch the sunset.

My favourite park is just around the corner from home. The park is named Hedgeley Dene Gardens in Malvern East. Since it is near home I ride my bike with my dad down to the park for some exercise. The reason I like the park so much is that it is close to home and not only is it great for exercise but there is a lake with ducks that you can feed. It takes me about 6 minutes riding to get there and the park itself is about 800 m around. When I run around it, it takes me about 9-10 minutes.

There are many parks in Carlton North but my favourite is Princes Park. It is a larger park than the others and is one of the most famous in the Northern Suburbs. There is a big playground with swings and slides, as well as a stadium where the Carlton Football Team trains. Walking to Princes Park takes around fifteen minutes from my house and is why we drive in our car which can get us there in less than five minutes. Another benefit of driving is that we can bring our miniature poodle Millie with us.

The perimeter of Princess Park is approximately one kilometer and takes around fifteen minutes to run. My favourite place in the park is the swings. I like them because they’re very relaxing and fun, especially when my brother and I play games where we try to kick each other’s feet. My dog Millie loves to run around in a field next to the park and play fetch with a tennis ball.

My favorite park is Jells Park because it is the only park I have been to. Jells Park has been my favorite since I was born. It has a golf course next to it, a farm also next to it called Chesterfield Farm which has a lot of sheep and lots of bike tracks that goes for ages. In the actual park there is a cafe, toilets and a duck pond. The park is very green and filled with dogs and humans. Children like to play on the playground just a few metres away from the cafe. Jells Park is suited for everyone – grandpa’s, grandma’s, babies, mums, dads and everyone else I haven’t said. It is also suited for what you like to do if you’re a walker, runner, bike rider or someone who likes to do some morning yoga. Jells Park is very big and there is space for everyone. At Christmas time there is a carnival where you can buy a car, get loads of food, face paintings, arts and craft and a petting zoo.
