ELC – Learn@Home Program

Lucas

It has been wonderful to see the learning occurring in our Learn@Home program. The children are engaging in a range of experiences and inquiries relating to hospitals, nature, Australian animals, identity and family, mathematical concepts, STEM experiences and art-based activities. These are all designed to develop the children’s learning and skills across a range of developmental areas.

The children eagerly participate in their small group Teams meeting several times per week. They have now become used to this format for communication and understand the importance of sitting still, looking at the screen and projecting their voice so that their peers can hear them. The children are becoming more comfortable and confident to share their learning in the Teams meeting, discussing topics such as the Covid-19 virus, sharing aspects of their family life and backgrounds, as well as sharing some of the work / activities that they have been completing at home.

It is natural that young children will be missing the connection with their friends, grandparents and extended family members during this time. In order to support the children with this you may wish to organise for them to write a letter or make a card to be mailed to a friend or loved one. They may wish to film video messages to send to friends or family. I have also posted several other activities on the portal that the children are able to do so as to remain connected. These include ‘Mailing a Hug’ or going on a ‘Chalk Walk’ to leave messages outside the houses of friends and family. It is important that the children are given opportunities to talk about and express how they are feeling at this time. These activities are the perfect catalyst for this.

Learning Packs and Library Books

An additional round of learning packs will be distributed to ELC children on Tuesday 12 May. These packs will be tailored to the programs currently being implemented in each class. Parents are asked to drive by the Junior School driveway between 9.30am and 10.30am on this day to collect a learning pack and change over your child’s library books. Alternatively, please contact me to arrange another time for collection. Please ensure that you bring your child’s library books with you so that these can be swapped over.

Celebrating Mother’s Day

Giselle

Our ELC children have been busily preparing a small celebration for their Mums as part of the Learn@Home program. Some children have prepared a special card, while others have picked flowers, given a hand massage or organised a small morning tea. Although this will not have the usual “surprise” element, I am sure that the Mums will be delighted with the efforts that the children have gone to celebrate their special day.

We wish all of the Early Learning Centre Mums a wonderful Mother’s Day with your families this Sunday.
