Junior and Intermediate Rowing

Junior and Intermediate Rowing

On Saturday 22 February 2020, our Junior and Intermediate rowing squads journeyed south to the Barwon River in Geelong for the Junior State Championship Regatta. As the final regatta before the Head of the School Girls, it was an excellent opportunity for our girls to refine their race craft before the final three weeks of training.

Our Inters, who raced in the morning session continue to show finesse and perseverance with all crews finishing in the Top 8 of their respective division and the Inter ‘Steven’ crew racing in the A Final.

Particular congratulations must go to the newly formed Inter ‘Bernard’ crew. Having only trained together for a limited period prior to the regatta, this was a great first outing.

Our Juniors, who raced in the afternoon session continued to show significant improvement over the two races. This was evident with five of the eight crews qualifying for the A Final (Top 4) of their respective division with the other three crews being very competitive nevertheless.

Congratulations to the following crews:

Bronze Medallists

9 Spirit – Charlotte Coates, Karen Deng, Annie Dripps, Anise Imam, Chloe Shergold

9 Steven – Ava Colosimo, Lucy Green, Eliza Murdoch, Rosie Oxley, Charlotte Rodgers

Senior Rowing

The Australian Henley Regatta

On Saturday 22 February 2020, our Senior rowing squad competed in the Australian Henley Regatta on the Yarra River. In this regatta, crews compete in match racing against a single opponent in a knock out format. All crews all progressed to the final for their respective schoolgirl divisions, with both the ‘Fearless Girl’ and ‘St Catherine’s 120’ crews winning gold and the ‘Tallent’ crew placing second. The ‘Fearless Girl’ continued to show fine form also racing in the U21 eight division, where they were narrowly beaten in the semi-final by a Mercantile crew containing several alumni of St Catherine’s School and also coached by our very own Ms Carlile.

Congratulations to the following crews who won the final of their respective division:

Fearless Girl – Alexandra Demetriou, Claire Gray, Clementine Newton-Brown, Romy Cantwell, Chloe Cooper, Harriet Fortey, Francesca Demetriou, Isabella Bufe, Ella Carton

St Catherine’s 120 – Sophie Hogan, Georgie Green, Bridget Vogel-Paul, Francesca King, Sophie Williams, Charlotte Murdoch, Chloe Rodgers, Thalia Barbayannis, Annabelle Johnson-King

All Squads

Special thanks to Summer Balla-Kellett, Zara Bongiorno, Eloise Burdett-Moore, Jade Chiang, Ava Colosimo, Kate Gibson-Rowsthorn, Bella Hall, Sophie Hogan, Lilli Holmes, Anise Imam, Mia Krongold, Rosie Oxley, Zara Peele, Charlotte Rodgers and Lucia Tabbagh who stepped up this year to compete with another crew in addition to their own (at the last minute!) to ensure they were able to race. Your cooperation and sportsmanship is commendable.

It is with great anticipation that all squads approach the Head of Schoolgirls Regatta (13 – 15 March 2019). This is the culmination of many months of hard work, particularly the early morning starts. Any support would be greatly appreciated.
