Interschool Chess Tournament

St Catherine’s performed well in this week’s Interschool Chess tournament at Scotch College. We competed against teams including Scotch College, Melbourne High School and Balwyn High School which are three of the top chess schools in the country. Our Gold team scored 19.5 points and finished 7th out of 16 teams. Our Silver team scored 5 points and finished in 14th place ahead of two other schools.

The good news from the tournament was:

  1. We secured a trophy for the top-scoring girls school.
  2. Five of our students qualified to participate in the Chess Victoria Secondary Girls State Final in October.
  3. Paula Chen (Year 10) and Lillian Lu (Year 11) were the two best performing girls in the tournament and both received individual awards.
  4. Our Year 7 students, in particular Audrey Doan, performed well in their first senior tournament.

Based on what I witnessed at this tournament, I am confident that our results will continue to improve as the year progresses.
