The Barbreck Irongirl Competition began in 2005 as an endurance test for Year 6 students. It has typically involved a run (1km) followed by a swim(150m) and then another run (800m). Some years however, the swim component has been replaced by a skill component such as Netball shooting due to the lack of a swimming pool.

All Year 6 students compete in the competition as one of the last things they do before departing for Senior School.

The original shield began at Haileybury College in 1986 and the inaugural winner was a boy named Campbell Pfeiffer. Campbell is now 44 years old!
