National Boarding Week

This week, our boarders in conjunction with the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA) are celebrating National Boarding Week.

To recognise the country many call their home away from home, boarders are taking part in a walk/run around Australia. There are approximately 25,000 boarders in nearly 200 boarding schools throughout Australia.  Coincidentally, the perimeter of Australia is also roughly 25,000 kilometres, therefore, each boarder is being encouraged to walk one kilometre to help achieve the goal of ‘walking around Australia’.

Additionally, each boarder is donating $1 towards Carrie Bickmore’s charity, Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, which supports research into brain cancer.

As one of the cancers that does not receive the national profile as some others, our boarders in conjunction with the Australian Boarding Schools Association are proud to become a significant donor to Carriesbeanies4braincancer in 2017.

Fun fact: Our furthest international boarder travels 16,855 kms to Illawarra and our furthest local boarder travels 3124 kms to Illawarra.

We have a wonderful group of 50 boarders and I am immensely proud of all of them.
