Connecting with Community

Our Early Learning Programs are supplemented by opportunities for the children to participate in incursions and excursions. Throughout the year a selection of experiences are planned both within the ELC and out in the wider community.

There are times when we invite an expert to come into our Centre to implement a workshop with the children where they share their knowledge or resources. This may be a music or drama experience, a workshop on reptiles or Australian animals, or a creative opportunity.

Last week the children in our Wattle Room were excited to venture out to the Melbourne Zoo to extend their learning in relation to endangered animals. The children had been engaging in a project in relation to the endangered lions and have been raising money to support the endangered lions at the Zoo. This excursion provided the perfect up-close encounter for the children to consolidate their classroom learning and see how the money they had raised would support the lions.

Yesterday, the children in our Banksia Room participated in an excursion to Edendale Farm. During this experience, the children explored the farm, where they observed various farm animals and learned about aspects of farm life. The children also spent time engaging in educational experiences related to bees and sustainability and an environmental art experience. This experience provided the children with the opportunity to extend and consolidate their learning related to animals and sustainability.

Such experiences provide incredibly rich opportunities to extend the children’s learning, connect with experts, and engage with the local community. They expose the children to a range of new and different experiences and help them to make sense of the world in which they live.

Celebrations of Learning

The children in our Early Learning Centre are looking forward to their end-of-year learning celebrations. Over recent weeks, the children have been reflecting on their year, recording audio and video, collating photographs, creating artwork, and rehearsing songs to include in their celebration. Each presentation will be a collective celebration of the children’s learning in the ELC in 2024. The children are excited to be able to share their work with you.

Please note the date below for the specific celebration for your child’s class. These events will be held in the ELC Piazza.
