Barbreck News – Public Speaking Competition

Years 3 to Year 6 students recently displayed impressive courage and creativity in the Junior School’s Public Speaking Competition.
Performing in front of the entire Junior School, teachers, and an enthusiastic crowd of parents, each student took to the stage to share their unique perspective on a wide range of topics.
The topics were diverse, sparking curiosity and laughter in the audience. Students chose imaginative subjects like:
‘What’s Under the Bed?’ and ‘Dreams,’ bringing their public speaking to life with humour and mystery. Others took on light-hearted but relatable topics like ‘Brussel Sprouts’ or ‘Growing up with Brothers,’ using wit to make everyone smile.
A few students captivated the crowd with their favourite books and characters, such as the magical world of Harry Potter. Practical topics like how to save money added a thoughtful touch, while inspiring tributes to women in history highlighted the students’ awareness of the world around them.
Throughout each presentation, the students used expressive hand gestures, strong eye contact, and dynamic vocal techniques to make their topics resonate. Their performances demonstrated poise and confidence.
Congratulations to all those who competed and the following Year level winners:
Year 3 – Hannah Engelbrecht
Year 4 – Parisa Leos
Year 5 – Francesca Zappone
Year 6 – Gemma Jurcevic
