Barbreck News – Building Student Ambassadors

A Barbreck girl is an ambassador for herself, her family, her school, and her community. She sees herself as:

  • as a driver of initiatives that benefit others
  • a leader who practises servant leadership
  • a voice for others
  • a person who is growing in skill and knowledge
  • an organiser and manager of events supporting their School and community
  • a part of a team working towards common goals.

These characteristics have been developed into our Barbreck Years 5 and 6 Ambassador Program to develop important life-skills in our Junior School student leaders.

This Program is not part of the Australian Curriculum, rather it is a bespoke value-added program for our St Catherine’s girls.

The Program is implemented across Years 5 and 6, with skills increasing in complexity and/or scope across two years. Students undertake one period per week as well as involvement in lunchtime participation and whole-day involvement in event activities benefiting and including all our Barbreck girls.

The basis of this Program is born from knowing our students. We know our Year 5 and 6 girls:

  • Are community minded
  • Want to be involved in their School
  • Want to provide a voice in the decision making of their School community
