Our Swap Pop Up Shop
Our annual Snowsports Swap, a beloved event for snow enthusiasts, took on a new identity this year, evolving into a dynamic two-hour ‘pop-up shop’ experience. The tradition-rich gathering saw familiar faces return once again, highlighting its growing popularity among snow aficionados.
This year’s event, held on Sunday 26 May, proved to be a remarkable success, grossing over $55,000 in revenue. None of this would have been possible without the dedicated efforts of 29 volunteers, including our hardworking Snowsports Auxiliary. Their tireless dedication in the weeks leading up to the event ensured its smooth execution.
The Swap boasted an impressive array of items, totaling 1457, encompassing both new and used goods. From designer brands to more budget-friendly options, there was something for every snow enthusiast. Over the course of two hours, 513 items found new homes, highlighting the event’s popularity and effectiveness.
However, the Snowsports Swap wasn’t just about buying and selling. A significant portion of the items, 326 to be precise, were donated to various charitable causes. Off Your Back Charity, dedicated to aiding the homeless in Melbourne, received a portion of the donations. Additionally, Rosebud Primary School and Children’s Ground, a First Nations organisation based in the Northern Territory, were beneficiaries, receiving essential warm clothing for underprivileged children.
Several individuals and organisations were instrumental in the success of the event. St Catherine’s Maintenance and IT Teams provided invaluable support in the lead-up to the swap, while Meredith Taylor facilitated communication and marketing efforts from a School perspective.
Noteworthy mentions include Mr Chris Cunningham, our retiring tong master on the BBQ, assisted by Mr Duncan Buckley, who ensured attendees were well-fed and satisfied throughout the Swap.
Among the most sought-after brands at the swap were KJUS, Karbon, Rossignol, Swanny, and Fischer, reflecting the discerning tastes of attendees. However, the most surprising item to grace the Swap this year was a pair of Konig T2 ski chains, adding an unexpected twist to the proceedings.
Despite the influx of attendees, the redesigned School Hall adeptly managed the crowd, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for all.
With its continued success and growing popularity, the Snowsports Swap remains a cherished tradition for snow enthusiasts, promising excitement, and camaraderie with each passing year.
