Developing the next generation of St Catherine’s School Rowers:

Over the course of Term 3, 45 St Catherine’s School Year 8 students embraced the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of rowing through the Learn to Row program. Not only did this require students to learn the technical basics of ‘arms, bodies, legs, legs, bodies, arms’, but also important information such as river rules and how to carry a boat correctly!

It was encouraging to witness so many smiling faces greet the coaches each Saturday, with students eager to learn how to row as well as have fun with their friends at the same time.

The five-week program culminated in all students taking part in the Learn to Row regatta. Crews raced approximately 500m in front of the Mercantile boat sheds, with fellow St Catherine’s School students cheering from the banks. The regatta was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what the students had learnt and developed during the program.

Term 4 marks the official beginning of the Junior rowing season, and we look forward to having our Year 8 girls join the Intermediate and Senior rowing squads at the boat sheds next week. Given the level of dedication and focus already demonstrated by students across all of the St Catherine’s School Rowing squads in Term 3, there is no doubt that we have another successful season ahead.
