Whether for fun, fitness or the thrill of serious competition, our Sports program provides students the opportunity to participate in a range of sports and at the level of their choice.
The St Catherine’s Sports program includes involvement in interschool competitions, interstate tours and internal House competitions throughout the year.
With expert coaching available, many of our students are outstanding sportswoman and excel within their individual sporting pursuits. We are privileged to have nurtured numerous elite athletes who have represented Australia.
In addition to the Inter-school GSV and SSV Competitions, St Catherine’s is proud to also offer a number of dedicated sporting clubs to students; St Catherine’s Aquatic, St Catherine’s Rowing Club, our Snowsports program and Athletics program. These Clubs provide opportunities for students to train with outstanding expert coaches and with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to support our athletes.
Our well-equipped Gymnastics Hall also provides opportunities to engage in progressive and fun-filled Educational Gymnastics lessons. These are taken by the exceptional, experienced and qualified coaches from Waverley Gymnastics Centre.
St Catherine’s School Sport Philosophy
St Catherine’s highly encourages sport as an important part of every student’s well-balanced weekly routine to foster overall wellbeing. Our extensive sporting program aims to provide athleticism through fitness, expertise, confidence and enjoyment in all areas of sport. Through a range of different programs and pathways, it provides students of all ability levels with an opportunity for both participation and performance, and fosters friendships and School spirit amongst students, coaches and parents.
The sports program provides a specific framework, building skills and confidence to scaffold their learning, nurturing the development of the whole individual.
- Stage 1- Participate and explore – offers the opportunity for our students to sample different programs and opportunities; to engage in a variety of sporting pursuits.
- Stage 2- Acquire and perform – presents experiences for students to achieve and succeed in sport, by acquiring and developing skills through practice.
- Stage 3- Excel– As skills are developed in an area of interest, students are provided with pathways to Excel.
St Catherine’s School is an inaugural member of Girls Sport Victoria (GSV),and played an integral part in its formation in 2001.
One of the largest independent school sporting associations in Victoria, GSV aims to promote the benefits of lifelong involvement in sport, positive attitudes to women’s health and has a strong ethic of encouraging good sporting behaviour.
With a membership of 24 Independent girls’ schools from across the State, GSV provides a high level sporting competition for students in Years 7 to 12.

Rowing at St Catherine's
In the Junior School, students participate in a range of interschool sport competitions against members of the Armadale District in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Competition. A number of Sporting Co-curricular opportunities are available to students from Prep to Year 6 including:

House Sport is a lively and spirited part of our Sports program. Complementing the Interschool Sports program, the House system provides both Senior and Junior students an opportunity to try their hand at a large range of sports and enjoy the friendly rivalry between Houses.
