Students receive a holistic coaching approach at St Catherine’s that develops their athletic ability, high performance and teamwork skills.

The St Catherine’s Boat Club has enjoyed an illustrious history, since it was started in 1987. The small but mighty program has enjoyed significant success at the state, national and international level in recent years.

Based at the Mercantile Rowing Club on the Yarra River, St Catherine’s rowers compete at various club regattas leading into the Victorian State Championships, the prestigious Head of the Schoolgirls Regatta and the Australian National Rowing Championships.

St Catherine’s rowers have produced a number of medals at each of these events, including the First XIII winning the Head of the Schoolgirls Regatta in 2021 and 2022 and the Australian National Rowing Championships in 2016 and 2022. In 2022, the undefeated St Catherine’s First XIII travelled to England to compete in the renowned Henley Royal Regatta, winning the Prince Philip Challenge Trophy for women’s eights in an all-international final against the US national champions. This marked the first time in the regatta’s 180 year history that an Australian schoolgirl crew had come away victorious. This crew were subsequently awarded the Leander Challenge Cup as the most outstanding junior crew at the event.

St Catherine’s School boasts one of the most experienced groups of coaches on the river bank along with best-in-class, state-of-the-art equipment. St Catherine’s students receive a holistic coaching approach, preparing students for high performance, to take pride in their best efforts and to work together with high degrees of professionalism.

After completing their Schooling, St Catherine’s old girls have gone on to row for Victoria and Australia at the under 19, under 21, under 23 and senior levels and winning medals at the World Rowing Championships. Others have pursued their tertiary studies with rowing scholarships around the world including at the University of Oxford, Princeton University, Brown University, University of Michigan, University of Texas at Austin, University of California Los Angeles and University of Miami.
