Armadale District Hockey Tournament
What an exciting day it was for the nine girls selected to represent St Catherine’s in the Year 6 Armadale District Hockey Tournament!
From the moment we boarded the bus, there was a buzz of energy and anticipation among the team. With a BYE in the first round, our girls had the opportunity to watch the competition closely and size up the teams ahead.
Despite only one or two girls having played hockey before, every member of the team brought determination, teamwork and spirit to the pitch. First up, we faced Firbank – a tough match-up, especially after they had just defeated Loreto. We knew this was our chance to knock off the top team.
What a game it turned out to be! The match was filled with highs and lows, including a dramatic goal reversal. St Catherine’s dominated the forward line throughout the game, but despite our best efforts, the match ended in a nail-biting 0-0 draw. It certainly kept Mr Dacy and Ms Cody on edge on the sidelines!
Heading into our second match against Loreto, the team had one clear goal: qualify for Regionals. It was a tense first half, with the ball moving back and forth between both teams. Finally, Missy B broke the deadlock with a fantastic goal to give us the lead. At halftime, Mr Dacy gathered the team for one last pep talk.
With renewed energy, game faces on, and the finish line in sight, the team charged into the second half. After a first-half injury, Nina Steedman returned to the field with fire in her belly, making an immediate impact by scoring within a minute of being back on. From there, the goals kept coming. We finished the match with a commanding 4-1 victory over Loreto!
This incredible win secured our place as 2025 Armadale District Hockey Champions and earned us a spot in the Regional Hockey Tournament, which has then allowed us to reach State Finals! We couldn’t be prouder of the effort, resilience and teamwork shown by every player.
A huge congratulations to all the girls who represented St Catherine’s so proudly.
