Meet our Deputy Head of Junior School

My name is Kate Banks, and I am the Deputy Head of Barbreck. I have experience working in both the public and independent education sectors in Victoria, most recently at Korowa Anglican Girls’ School. During my time at Korowa, I held several leadership positions, including Year 3-6 Coordinator and Junior School Curriculum Coordinator.

I am passionate about creating a challenging yet supportive learning environment where students are inspired by a love for learning and a sense of discovery. This environment equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive as 21st-century learners. In 2022, my research on Mastery Learning was featured in a series of transformative projects documented in the book The Magic in the Space Beyond, edited by Ian Wigston. In 2023, I had the privilege of presenting at the Primary English Teaching Association Australian Conference, where I shared my enthusiasm for engaging students through a transdisciplinary inquiry-based approach to education, with a focus on “Embedding Literacy Throughout Project-Based Learning.”

I am thrilled to be joining the St Catherine’s community and am excited to meet and get to know all the students and families in Barbreck.
