Year 7, 2023: In Review

This year has been a rollercoaster of excitement! My highlights have been making new friends and enjoying the camp experiences. Year 7 taught me the power of resilience and the importance of time management. My amazing teachers and supportive friends made this journey memorable. I felt a strong sense of belonging in our School. I feel inspired to learn something new every day and carry-on with positive energy!

My highlight of Year 7 was Lake Eildon Camp. I learned I can be resilient and independent, whilst also taking part in teamwork activities. I also really enjoyed competing in GSV Sports, especially Cross-Country and Track and Field. Another highlight was the Gala Concert. I performed in the Concert Band, Sherren Singers, and Massed Strings. It was a great experience and I loved watching others as well.

As a new student at St Catherine’s, Year 7 has been absolutely incredible. There are so many amazing opportunities I have been able to do since coming here that have made my experience so much better. This includes GSV and Club Netball. I have an amazing group of girls in my Year level and have made so many new connections throughout the year. I am so excited for Year 8!

Year 7 has been such an amazing year! From camp to Debating to GSV Sport it truly has been a year of growth. It feels like only yesterday I was walking through the gates for my first day and now we are about to finish our first year of Senior School! I am so grateful for every girl in Year 7 who made this year so enjoyable. I can’t wait for another amazing year!

I definitely felt nervous going into Year 7. How would I find all my classrooms, I would think? However, every time I was lost or feeling uneasy, there was always someone willing to help. Year 7 has gifted me many new experiences. My most memorable would be working on the Addams Family Musical. I have gained so many new friendships through this experience, and the older girls were so kind and inspirational to work with.

When I first came to St Catherine’s I didn’t know anyone. I overcame this by focusing on talking to one person for the day. This helped me, as I could make friends to flourish my social skills. Some things I enjoyed were the Middle Years Production, Sherren Singers Choir, GSV Sport, and House activities. I learned in Year 7 that if you join a Club or a GSV Sport, you will find that you will interact with lots of new people.

The Class of 2028 walked through the Heighington Gates as a Cohort for the first time on February 1, 2023, starting their high school journey together. When they first got to know each other, they may have been joyful, anxious, thrilled, or even a bit shy, but as time went on, they realised how much they needed and loved one another. I’m so proud and privileged to be a part of such a loving, compassionate, and wonderful Cohort.

2023 has been an eventful year for me at St Catherine’s. I have had the opportunity to be a part of The Addams Family Musical, compete in a variety of sports through GSV, and be involved in Debating and Public Speaking. I’m grateful for chances like these that allowed me to explore interests in a variety of fields, including academics, sports, and the arts. In comparison to Junior School, I have seen a significant shift in my educational experience this year. Naturally, I knew that things would get harder when I got into Senior School, but I don’t think I knew just how hard all these girls were working and how they could easily juggle their tasks. Now that I’m standing where they stand, I know exactly how they feel, but this has taught me what I am really capable of when I put in the necessary hours of diligent study and constant effort.

Being able to attend St Catherine’s for my high school education makes me feel really fortunate and thankful. I am grateful to my family, friends, and teachers for all their love and support. Year 7 has been an unforgettable and life-changing year for me, and I am immensely thankful for this School and the community.
