Insights from the Resilient Youth Survey

During Term 1, Barbreck students in Years 3 to 6 participated in the Resilient Youth Survey. The Survey is completed by 600,000 young Australians aged seven to 19 and used in over 2,400 schools nationwide.

The Survey aims to gauge the wellbeing, resilience, and overall mindset of our students in Years 3 to 6. The findings provide valuable insights into our students’ perceptions of their school environment and personal wellbeing.

For our Barbreck girls, the Survey revealed several positive results that contribute to our students’ wellbeing, including:

  • Love and Support: Parents and carers are recognised for their significant role in providing love, support, and encouragement to our students. Your influence is invaluable in shaping their educational journey.
  • Supportive Teachers: A significant number of students highlighted that their teachers encourage and care for them. This nurturing environment is crucial in fostering a positive educational experience.
  • Safe School Atmosphere: Students reported feeling safe and secure within our School premises. This indicates we have successfully established an environment where they can thrive. Our School’s commitment to maintaining clear rules and enforcing them fairly was acknowledged by students. Consistency in this regard helps create a structured and predictable learning environment.
  • Self-Perception: A majority of students believe they are performing well academically and/or across other facets of their lives. This positive self-perception contributes to their overall wellbeing.
  • Life Satisfaction: The overall life satisfaction of our students is high, accompanied by lower reported levels of anxiety and depression compared to students from other Australian schools.

The Resilient Youth Survey found that our students possess a notably positive learning mindset and are eager and ready to learn. This positive attitude sets a strong foundation for their academic and personal growth.

Thank you for your continued support in creating a positive and nurturing educational journey for our students. Together, we can help them thrive both academically and emotionally.
