National Tree Planting Day

On Thursday 27 July our Barbreck Environment Committee were lucky enough to take part in an annual National Tree Planting initiative run by the City of Stonnington.

Wearing our sports gear and new gloves, we ventured off to the Urban Forest Reserve where we met with the Council team and another school.

When we arrived, we were informed about the local flora and fauna and were presented with the challenge of planting over 1,000 native tube stock. After a quick demonstration on how to plant, the girls set off busily planting. We were very lucky to have been given pre-dug holes, which made the task that much easier!

It was wonderful to watch the girls fully engage with the activity and many of them verbally said how much fun they were having and how they cannot wait to come back again. Being out in nature, getting their gloves dirty and doing their part for the environment was a rewarding experience.

As part of participating in helping to green our city, the girls were lucky enough to be provided with $150 worth of planting vouchers from Westgate Biodiversity: Bili Nursery & Landcare.

We would like to thank Ms Annie Swann and the team at the City Stonnington for providing such a wonderful opportunity. As well as Bili Nursery and Landcare for their generous voucher, which we look forward to using on our School grounds.

Thank you also to Mr Gold who helped our team and thank you to the Environment Committee members from Years 3 and 5. You all represented your School well and helped to give back to the community.
