On a windy Wednesday afternoon, 21 fired up Barbreck Year 6 footballers took up the challenge of District AFLW against our neighbouring schools.

It was a slow start in the early games as our players adjusted to the conditions and for some, an unfamiliar game.

If effort and commitment were measured, we would have easily won the premiership, however, the real winner was the spirit, enthusiasm and School pride that was on display.

Highlights of the day

  • Olivia Bingham’s courage and desire for the ball
  • Alexandra Pitt’s breakaway speed from the contest and long balls into attack
  • Serena Ma’s hard hitting and unforgiving tackle pressure
  • Emma Hessell and Coco Thomas’ tireless ruck work
  • Olivia Ren’s dash through the centre of the ground to be followed by high 5s with her team mates
  • Goals to Matilda (Milly) Cameron, Isabella Wilkins, Siena Lane and Alexandra Pitt.
  • Giselle (Gigi) Armstrong and Bella Bodsworth’s knowledge and guidance through the AFLW landscape.
  • Junya Jiang’s “Don’t mess with me” approach to football
