A World of Possibilities

Year 9 is an exciting time for our students as they grow in maturity and gain greater independence in their learning. After numerous years of disruptions to programs and travel, our Year 9 students are eager to make the most of the many exchange opportunities that lie ahead.

In response to the growing demand for exchange placements and the return of international travel St Catherine’s has expanded our exchange opportunities to enable 24 students to participate in the program this year.

Each of our carefully selected exchange schools provide a unique opportunity for students to challenge themselves and step out of their comfort zone in a new country or state. The exchange allows the girls to immerse themselves in a new school and new culture. This year we have students travelling to the United Kingdom, Canada, United States of America and closer to home in Western Australia and New South Wales.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to travel with two of our students to Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver Island in Canada. Our two students will be boarding there for the remainder of the term and will experience life in a predominantly boarding school. The expansive grounds at Shawnigan were breathtaking and had a bit of a Hogwarts quality about it – with a grand dining hall and surrounding forest. The school lies on Shawnigan Lake where students can swim, row, and watch the Canadian Rowing team in training. The students’ overwhelming feedback about the program is so positive with many forming lifelong friendships and finding it to be a lifechanging experience.

The 2024 Year 9 Exchange Information evening will be held on Tuesday 8 August from 6.00pm. Students in Year 8 interested in any of the exchange opportunities are encouraged to attend with a parent or guardian.

Student Feedback:

“Going on the Year 9 exchange to the UK has taught me to embrace every opportunity you are given. This has been the best experience of my life. I will forever cherish the memories I have made here and am so grateful I was given this opportunity.” Poppy

So far, the exchange has been such an incredible and unique experience. We are only halfway through, and I have already made so many memories and friendships that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Although being on the other side of the world was a bit daunting at first, it didn’t take long to warm up to the environment and the family. I am so grateful for this opportunity and experience, and I am learning so much about myself and the UK. From the [King’s] Coronation to accents, to Marmite, it has been a very interesting ride. I never thought I would be able to go on an exchange when I was in Year 8, yet here I am, and I am loving every second. I highly recommend exchange to anyone currently in Year 8 who is considering it. It is such an eye-opening journey and one you will never forget.” Kari
