After a phenomenally successful Term 1, our sporting teams produced an equally impressive Term 2.

GSV Weekly Sport
Hockey

Our highly talented Senior Hockey Team (2019 and 2021 GSV Champions) set out to defend their title. While injury and illness meant that the Team consistently played with less than 11 players, they won all their zone games and finished with an incredible +44 goal difference!

The Team cemented their dominance of the competition at the GSV Finals, beating Camberwell Girls 10-0 in the semi-final, and MLC a whopping 11-0 in the Grand Final. Selfless, team-first hockey was the theme of the season, and we are incredibly proud of the Team winning our first Senior A Grade Premiership in over a decade. In positive news for the future of our hockey teams, our Junior and Intermediate Teams both had excellent seasons and progressed to the GSV finals to finish third and fourth, respectively.

Water Polo

Our Senior Team once again proved to be one of the best in the pool. Big wins throughout the season saw them finish undefeated and with an impressive goal difference of +68. A tough game against MLC in the semi-final sent the Team to the third-place playoffs. The girls re-grouped to beat Mentone 11-3 and secure third place in the GSV.

AFL

Our Senior (Years 9 to 12) AFL Team produced fantastic performances to defeat Siena (64 to 1) and Sacré Coeur (34 to 8) and finish third in their zone, one ladder position off the finals.

One of the highlights of the season was the annual Huntingtower/Heyington Shield match against Lauriston. In front of a big crowd, St Catherine’s missed several shots on goal to hand Lauriston the Shield for the first time since its inception. Congratulations to Year 11 student Mietta Passon who was voted best on ground. We look forward to re-gaining the Shield next year.

GSV Carnival Sport
Cross Country

Led by our Head Athletics coaches Ms Kim Mulhall and Ms Liz Mathews, our runners put in a tough term of training. Despite injury and illness hampering several runners, our small but mighty team produced several excellent performances during the GSV Championship Carnival at the new venue, Cruden Farm.

Congratulations to Emma Peele and Matisse Stafford who finished sixth and seventh overall (out of all 24 GSV schools) in their respective Junior and Senior races. Several students also finished in the top 10 of Division 2, with Kari Prendergast finishing tenth in the Juniors, and Rosie Osborn and Sarah Marriott finishing sixth and tenth, respectively.

We wish our amazing First VIII rowers all the best for their campaign at the Henley Royal Regatta. As National Champions, they are representing Australia in the School Girls VIII. Stay tuned to mystcatherines and our Instagram pages for live stream details of the Regatta.

We look forward to commencing Term 3 Sport after the break, with training for Soccer, Badminton and Track & Field all starting in Week 1, as well as the House Snowsports weekend on July 23 to 24. It is incredibly exciting to have these sports back up and running, the first time since 2019!
