News from Sport – AFLW District Carnival

On Wednesday 8 June the Armadale District AFLW Carnival took place. St Catherine’s fielded a formidable team as seven of our Year 6 already play for Prahran Football Club.

The girls received an amazing send-off as they ran through the Barbreck girls’ Spirit Tunnel into the School minibus.

A summary of the Carnival games is provided below:

Game 1
St Catherine’s 1-2-8 defeated Sacre Coeur 0-0-0.

Our tackling pressure was great from the start with Jessica Kemp and Pippa Van der Venne leading the way. Isla Rosenberg kicked a long-range goal to seal the match.

Game 2
St Catherine’s 1-2-8 lost to Genazzano 2-1-13.

After leading for the majority of the game, we conceded a late goal to lose by five points. Berry Roberts, Coco Lutz, and Arabella Foote were good contributors in this game.

Game 3
St Catherine’s 1-1-7 lost to Loreto (eventual Carnival winners) 2-6-18.

This was the big semi final game and Loreto was never going to be easy to play against. Our girls hung in the game and were the only school to score a goal against Loreto. Clara Barry and Tara Pattison started to find more of the ball around the ground whilst we finished strongly with the wind.

Game 4
St Catherine’s 1-28 drew with MGGS 1-2-8

The playoff for third place finished in an exciting draw and some very tired players never stopped trying all day.
