Rowing – Year 8 Learn to Row 2021

The aim of the St Catherine’s Rowing program is to encourage a healthy lifestyle, where students enjoy rowing and want to continue their participation. Each level of St Catherine’s Rowing has different characteristics, however, across the board there are two key goals that we always seek to achieve – (1) to do the fundamentals better than anyone else and (2) to develop students to allow them to achieve a personal best performance.

Our vision for the St Catherine’s Rowing Program is to:

  • Enhance the physical, mental and personal development of students through the enjoyment of rowing
  • Challenge girls to achieve their personal best through teamwork and commitment
  • Foster friendships and school spirit among rowers, coaches, parents and staff

The Learn to Row program is offered to all Year 8 Students in Term 3. The program runs across six Saturdays throughout Term 3, commencing on Saturday 31 July. It is an excellent opportunity for students to try a new sport that is all about teamwork and camaraderie. The sport of rowing teaches students how to work effectively as part of a team, it helps build resilience and determination and provides a very unique sporting experience.

“I love rowing as it is the ultimate team sport that creates everlasting bonds between you and your crewmates. Rowing has taught me to be organised and make use of every moment I have which has transferred positively into my academics. The sunrises and unique city views you see are 100% worth the early starts!” Sarah Marriott (Year 11 Rower)

“I started rowing in Year 8 and then continued through to Year 12. While rowing has so many amazing elements such as competing, training on the Yarra River and pushing yourself to the limit, one of the best elements about this sport is the community and bonds made. When you spend many hours together with a crew, you become a family who work together for an overall goal. The past four years I have been rowing have been some of the best moments of my life and I couldn’t be more thankful for signing up.” Chloe Cooper (Year 12 Rower)
