Barbreck – House Gymnastics

The Barbreck House Gymnastics for 2021 had a slightly different feel to it this year.

Firstly, due to the current coronavirus restrictions, the competition was held in the Senior School Gym, requiring the us to split the event across two sessions: Years 5 and 6 followed by Years 3 and 4. Secondly, the students performed their own skills, or short routines, on the four apparatus: bars, beam, mini tramp and floor.

The girls loved the idea of choosing what to perform and being able to display their talents with their peers. Unfortunately, no parents were allowed to watch, due to the COVID restrictions. The Year 5 and 6 girls performed a set, mini aerobics routine, in their House, to music, with Holmes Kilbride top scoring in that section.

A highlight for many is the handstand challenge, which is held while scores are being calculated.

The challenges were won by:

Year 3 Samara Grinsell, Year 4 Isabella Wilkins, Year 5 Alie Belan and Year 6 Olivia Barr.

The final House placings were:

1st Beaulieu Blair

2nd Langley Templeton

3rd Holmes Kilbride

4th Davis
