Music Update – Students Keeping Music Alive

I am always inspired by the resilience and persistence of our students. They have bounced back after our isolation last year and thrown themselves straight back into making music together. Choirs, Chamber groups, Orchestras and Bands are all rehearsing together and preparing for performances for 2021. I thank the students for keeping music alive and safe during our isolation period so that it could be returned to us intact.

We have already had two recitals, (Junior School and Senior School), which have given our young musicians a forum to practise their performing skills in a supportive environment. These were generously supported by parents, relatives and staff.

Junior School Recital

Students who featured in the Junior School Recital were: Tiffany Shen, Aimee Davenport, Isabelle Reichman, Miya Fei, Lucille Parfit, Emily Venema, Nina Calvert, Clara Calvert, Milla Cohen, Jiayi (Kitty) Huang, Hemin (Michelle) Zhang, Polly Moir and Amelia Guo.

Senior School Recital

Our wonderful performers who featured at the Senior School Recital were Tianyi (Lydia) Hu (Year 9), Allison Duong (Year 12), Chloe (Coco) Butterfield (Year 9), Zixuan (Sunny) Zhao (Year 9), Jialing (Fiona) Zhu (Year 9), Tszki (Lily) Zhang (Year 9), Lauren Lam (Year 8), Catherine Chen (Year 11), Jixuan (Jennifer) Gao (Year 9), Xiang (Helen) Yu (Year 9), Mikayla Lee (Year 11), Flora Du (Year 10), Valerie Plastow (Year 11), Sarah Pratt (Year 11), Charlotte Myer (Year 11), Christina Wu (Year 10), Keyue (Karen) Deng (Year 10), Victoria (Vicky) Patsakos (Year 12), Sophie Williams (Year 12) and Megan Chang (Year 11).

Concerto Concert

The St Catherine’s School Music Department proudly presents the 2021 Concerto Concert on Tuesday 30 March in the Dorothy Pizzey Hall.

Many of our most accomplished musicians have been preparing substantial pieces to present at our Concerto Concert. Our Jorgensen Orchestra (Director Mrs Lisa Cook) have been working hard to learn professional level pieces in order to support them. Soloists include Anita Yang Year 12 (Cello), Sophie Williams Year 12 (Voice), Christina Wu Year 10 (Violin), Danielle Wong Year 9 (Harp), Catherine Chen Year 11 (Piano), Ava Colosimo Year 10 (Flute), Chloe (Coco) Butterfield Year 9 (Violin), Olivia (Rosie) Bogdan Year 11 (Violin) and Emma Gregory Year 10 (Flute). The concert also features our own Staff Quartet (Miss Hannah Church, Mrs Lisa Cook, Ms Holly Shoar and Miss Stephanie Stamopoulos).

Danielle Wong will be one of the feature performers on Harp at the Concerto Concert, and Anita Yang, Olivia (Rosie) Bogdan, Christina Wu and Chloe (Coco) Butterfield are only 4 of our fabulous soloists at the Concerto Concert.

The amazing Sherren Singers (Years 7 & 8) directed by Ms Cher are busily preparing for our Easter Service on Wednesday 31 Mar 2021 at 2pm. We will also hear from our combined flute ensemble (directed by Ms Sandy Yao and Ms Jessica Farrell) along with Viva Voci (directed by Ms Juliana Kay).

Our Senior School strings will be one of the many groups from both Junior School and Senior School who are excited about performing at the Melbourne Recital Centre on August 31 in the St Catherine’s School Gala Concert.

We look forward to seeing you at the Concerto Concert on Tuesday 30 March.
