Barbreck Update – Socialising Together

What a wonderful week it has been as we move through the second half of Term 1.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

Under the blue skies of a spectacular Melbourne afternoon, ELC4 and Barbreck families gathered for the PFA Teddy Bear’s Twilight Picnic. It was wonderful to finally hold this event after five years! In recent years the building construction, the damaged green and then COVID-19 kept the event at bay, but this week’s event made up for the delays. It was wonderful to see the ELC4 and Barbreck community come together onsite after such a long time.

The green was the perfect venue for the event and everyone enjoyed socialising together and the children loved playing on the playground long into the evening. It was a well-attended event and the sausage sizzle and LICKT ice-creams, kindly donated by the Ktenavos family, topped off the afternoon.

There were bears of all sizes and the girls had gone to great lengths to decorate them for the School’s birthday party. Thanks go to the School Captains, Lucy Campbell and Clementine Newton-Brown, for being the judges of the best dressed teddy bears for each year level and to the other senior girls for their help on the barbeques.

Thank you also to the PFA organisers for the time and effort they put into running this event, one I am sure will be enjoyed each year for many more years to some.

Barbreck Wellbeing Program

This year, we have Mrs Jenny De Nardis delivering the Health and Wellbeing Program to students in Years Prep to Year 6 in Barbreck. The Health program follows the Australian Curriculum while the Wellbeing Program was developed in consultation with Swinburne University.

After the past year, our focus this year is on Care of Our Students and the Wellbeing program will play a key role in the care we provide.

The girls in Years Prep to Year 4 will receive one lesson per week of Health and Wellbeing, while those in Years 5 and 6 will receive a mixture of set lessons, specialist sessions, workshops and guest presenters. While these form the basis of the program, wellbeing will also be covered in general class lessons as usual.
