Particular care with sun protection is necessary in Terms 1 and 4. We need to remember to protect ourselves from harmful UV damage by applying suitable 30 to 50 + SPF sunscreen to the face, neck, arms and legs before coming to school. Students are reminded to seek shade rather than sitting in direct sunlight at recess and lunchtimes. Sunscreen should be reapplied throughout the day as necessary. This is especially important after swimming, exercising vigorously and excessive sweating.

Use a generous amount of sunscreen. The average sized adult needs a teaspoon of sunscreen for their head and neck, each limb and for the front and the back of the body. That is about 35ml of sunscreen for one full body application.

Sunscreen is available for reapplication throughout the day, from your daughter’s Head of Year, in the Café, at Reception and in the Health Centre.

One of the best barriers between your skin and the sun is clothing, so try to cover as much skin as possible. Most fabrics will provide some protection from the sun. Early Learning Centre and Junior School students must wear a hat whilst outside.

During sun protection times, apply SPF 30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen to any skin not covered by clothing.

For the best protection during the daily sun protection times, use all five Sun Smart steps – clothing, sunscreen, a broad-brimmed hat, shade and sunglasses.
