The First Day of the New School Year

The First Day of School

Students in Year 5KW on their first day of the new school year.

At 8 o’clock, there was a group of girls and their parents eagerly waiting for the doors to open so they could start their day. They were beautifully dressed in their uniforms with well-groomed hair, ready to be the ‘St Catherine’s School Girl’ after such a long break. There was much welcoming, squeals of delight as they found their friends, and excitement at what the year might have in store for them. This is exactly how a first day should be. I shared with the girls my love of new stationery which always led me to thinking about new goals to do with neat work, ruling my pages up beautifully and making sure my handwriting was just right! To my delight, many of the girls shared this same love and had similar goals.

The first day coincided with the partial opening of the Village Green and, after so long without their playground, the girls were happy to explore and use the areas available. I think most of them tried every piece of equipment at least once.

Our Junior School students eagerly explored the play spaces in the new Village Green.

I would like to thank parents for making sure the girls were well prepared for their first day and to all of the contributors to the Village Green, there was a great deal of excitement in the air which will continue well into the years to come.

Establishing Good Home Routines – The Evidence is Positive

We all lead busy lives these days and often we question the value of some of the little routines our parents did for us that we have taken on or those school requests. The following graphics illustrate how a simple routine of 20 minutes of reading every night can have such a huge impact on your child’s academic success. The key take away is to keep the routine of your child reading 20 minutes a night.

The First Day of Prep

Our Prep students on their first day of school.

We have had a wonderful start to Prep this year. We had no tears (well some from Mums and Dads) and there were smiles all around. The time seemed to fly by with the girls exploring their new classroom, playing on the new playground, getting to know one another and discussing what school is all about. “School is for learning!” we all agreed. We can learn about many different things and Prep T is very excited to see what 2019 will bring. We have even started our count up to 100 Days of Prep.
