Junior School Results

The first big events of the Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships were held on Sunday 5 August with the staging of the Cross Country races. St Catherine’s was once again prominent on the mountain with some fantastic performances. Both our Classic (individual) teams from Divisions 4 and 5 qualified through to Nationals by finishing 3^rd and 4^th respectively. Top 10 individual placegetters included:

Division 4

• Catherine Ross (Year 5) 6^th
• Katharine Soutter (Year 6) 8^th

Division 5

• Adelaide Lempriere (Year 3) 7^th
• Camilla Aberdeen (Year 2) 8^th

In the Cross Country relay (Skate), we achieved even greater success as Barbreck girls really enjoy the skate technique.

Div 4 Relay

• A Team (Indi Cunningham (Year 6), Catherine Ross and Arabella Bertalli (Year 6) 2^nd
• C Team (Bella Burdett-Moore (Year 5), Charlotte Wood (Year 6) and Lucy McAllister (Year 5) 4^th
• B Team (Katharine Soutter, Sienna Bamford (Year 6) and Louisa Burney (Year 6)  5^th

Div 5 Relay

• A Team (Adelaide Lempriere, Isabella Soutter (Year 4) and Clover Oxley (Year 4) 2^nd

St Catherines finished 2^nd overall in the Primary Schools competition. We now have a nice start in the points race before the Alpine events kick off on Monday 20 August.

Senior School Results

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the 2018 Subaru Victorian Interschools Cross Country Championships and contributed towards St Catherine’s overall win in the Girls Secondary School Division Championship. St Catherine’s students displayed outstanding effort and teamwork as they raced a challenging time trial course.

St Catherine’s had a number of outstanding individual performances in the Classic Race, topped by the Division 3 girls. Within this Division, St Catherine’s had six students place within the top 10. Madeleine Hooker (Year 8), Julia Kent (Year 7), Sarah Marriott (Year 8) and Arabella Hall (Year 8) finished 4^th, 5^th, 7^th and 10^th respectively. Podium finishes were achieved by Zara Bongiorno (Year 8) who finished 3^rd overall and Matisse Stafford (Year 7), who in her first Interschools Cross Country finished 1^st overall in the Division.

As always, the key to St Catherine’s success was the strong support of team racing. This was evident through the outstanding team performances achieved by all St Catherine’s teams. All Divisions medalled at the championships, with the Division 3 teams leading the way finishing in 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd position on the podium in the Skate Relay.

A big congratulations and thank you must be given to our Year 12 representatives, Claudia Richardson (c), Sophie McAllister (c), Willow Burrell, Sarah Steven, Ella Lansell and Annabel Joubert. These girls continue to represent the School with pride, giving it their all, and encouraging a new generation of cross country skiers to do their best for St Catherine’s.

Overall the Secondary School team finished on 56 points, ahead of MLC (52 points) and Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School (33 points).

With such strong performances, many of our St Catherine’s team members shall qualify through to the Australian Championships in September. Thank you to all the parents and staff, particularly Mr Tom Crebbin, for all their support and wisdom on the mountain. The girls are excited by the challenges that lie ahead at the nationals.
