District Basketball
On Tuesday 27 August, eight students from St Catherine’s showed their basketball skills at the SSV Armadale District Basketball Tournament, held at Waverley Basketball Stadium. The girls played five games throughout the day, facing tough competition, and demonstrating strong teamwork.
The first matches were against Korowa and Firbank, two very strong teams. Our defence was solid, but unfortunately, our shots weren’t going in, making it hard to score. Despite the slow start, the girls kept their spirits up and kept each game extremely competitive.
Everything changed in our fourth match, which was a must-win game against Sacre Coeur. The girls played with focus and energy, showing off some of their best basketball of the day. Impressive performances from Imogen Brownjohn, Soraya Leos, and Kimberly Chen stood out, but it was the teamwork and passing the ball around that really made a difference.
The incredible intercepts and defensive pressure from Annabel Bradshaw, Nina Calvert and Zoe Dixon kept the momentum going for St Cath’s, along with excellent rebounds from both Jiayi (Kitty) Huang and Mariella Simmons. Winning this game meant we moved into the 5th vs 6th position match against Lauriston.
The final game was close and low scoring. Both teams played hard, but Lauriston managed to pull ahead in the second half. Despite the loss, the girls finished the day in sixth place and can be extremely proud of their efforts.
It was a great day of sportswomanship and teamwork, with all the girls enjoying the experience. Congratulations to all eight students who represented St Catherine’s. Well done to the Team for their hard work and dedication!
