Art in the Dark

Art in the Dark was a highlight for our Early Learning Centre children and their family and friends

What a wonderful celebration we enjoyed in our Early Learning Centre recently with our Art in the Dark Exhibition! The breathtaking art display was the culmination of the students' PYP Units of Inquiry, and our students' exploration of the notions: ‘We express ourselves through many languages' and ‘We express our thoughts and ideas through many languages'.

Hundreds of families and visitors were treated to an amazing array of carefully and thoughtfully created pieces of art, including painting, construction, drawing, wire sculptures, puppetry, sewing, clay construction and collage, just to name a few. The children were encouraged to choose the medium they wanted to explore and a superb array of materials were provided for the children to use. New skills were learnt as the children worked on their projects. New techniques were learnt and lots of problems and frustrations were seen as possibilities. The accompanying documentation beside each piece of work on display described the process which was required as the children worked towards their goal. This enabled our visitors to understand the enormous learning, hard work, concentration and joy which the children had experienced.

The children were utterly delighted when they saw Art in the Dark set up, complete with twinkling fairy lights!

It was a mammoth effort by our amazing and enthusiastic staff throughout the term and we thank them for the endless love, time and dedication to the children.
