“A sense of wonder and curiosity is fostered in each child through creating opportunities to play, explore, investigate, discover and be active participants in their learning.” – St Catherine’s Early Learning Philosophy.

The children in the Blue Gum Room have immersed themselves in a small project over the past few weeks. The project involved creating their very own volcano. This idea stemmed from their growing interest in dinosaurs, and discovering through their research that there were volcanoes around in the prehistoric world. The children then decided upon creating their very own volcano out of clay and drew plans of what their volcano would look like.

The children in the Blue Gum Room recently created their very own volcano.

They were very clear in their plans that they wanted to include features of water surrounding the volcano, rocks, grass and, most importantly, lava. Throughout this collaborative project, the children displayed many dispositions of learning including curiosity, cooperation, confidence, commitment and enthusiasm. To conclude this project, the children were very excited to take part in a Science experiment with their teachers that involved creating the formation of lava erupting out of their very own volcano.
